How Does Online Learning Work?

Online learning allows students to have greater flexibility than in the traditional classroom.  Students can work from any location that suits their individual needs and at any time they choose.  You and your school counselor will decide what will be the best time and location for you.

Once you have been enrolled into a course through SW/WC Online Learning Community you will be given the start and end dates to the class as well as log-in information.  Once you are logged in you will have access to your course(s) you signed up for.  All of your course materials will be made available to you here.  You may access your course homepage at any time and from any location with internet access.

An online course offered through SW/WC Online Learning Community meets the same state academic standards as a traditional course.  Students can expect to spend just as much time working on their online course as they would if they were enrolled in a classroom based course.  In an online course, however, students have more flexibility as to when they learn.  Students may access their course materials at their own discretion, but will be given deadlines for assignment completion and a date and time range for completing quizzes and tests.

Students who elect to take an online course in place of another course offered at their school building will have a free period to work on their online course.  Students who are taking an online course above and beyond their full course load or as a home school student will need to allocate the time necessary to work on their course when it best suits their needs.

Students in an online course will need to check their course homepage at least once per day to keep up with the readings and assignments.  Teachers will post all assignment materials, due dates, quizzes, upcoming events, grades, contact information etc. in this location.

Teachers will be available by phone, email and/or virtual office hours.  SW/WC Online Learning Community sets a guideline of no more than 24 hours to respond to student questions.

Technical support is provided by SW/WC Online Learning Community by email at desupport@swsc.org or by calling (507) 537-2259.  Online tutorials and troubleshooting information is also provided on the SW/WC Online Learning Community Moodle homepage.
